Following GASBOOK 25, which was published in conjunction with the refract show at Calm Punk Gallery, GASBOOK 26 by Yuichi Higashionna is a collection of chandelier works using fluorescent lights.

In 2012, to commemorate the publication of this book, Yuichi Higashionna exhibited his ongoing works, including drawings and tableaux, as a spatial installation centering on fluorescent chandeliers at CALM PUNK GALLERY and NADiff Gallery at the same time.

『Artist's Comment』

The "Chandelier" series of fluorescent lamps that I started in 2011 was moving away from its original intention of being an ironic self-reference to Japan's obsession with fluorescent lamps and toward a more gorgeous light object (light art). I think the direction was shifting in the direction of strengthening the aspect of gorgeous light objects (light art).

At the same time, as is the fate of art that relies on technology, changes in the social environment (power shortages after 3.11) and the emergence of new technologies (LEDs) have forced changes in the way artworks are viewed and accepted.

Through the publication of the book "FL" and these two exhibitions, I would like to explore again what can be expressed by using fluorescent light, a medium that in a sense symbolizes the mentality of postwar Japan and is now in a transitional period.
