■ Solo Exhibition "Solo Tumult"

While filming a commercial at Waimea Bay, one of the world's top surf spots on the island of Oahu, Klincewicz witnessed the most giant wave of the year and became obsessed with documenting the spectacle: the intersection of Nature and man, stillness and movement, mind and body. Solo Tumult captures these opposing aspects and presents a metaphorical manifestation of human beings trying to find harmony in chaos. As an artist who is constantly spinning amidst the dizzying speed of the commercial realm, this allegory hints at Klincewicz’s personal stance and also renders a portrait of hectic modern life.

We hope you will enjoy the world of Julian Klincewicz, where multi-layered metaphors seep into pop representations.

■ Profile

Julian Klincewicz (b. 1995–) is a California-based artist who uses a diverse range of mediums such as photography, videography, music, writing and fashion to express and explore his unique vision. He produces works that whilst personal, often present in a symbolic and pop vernacular - speaking the language of today’s contemporary society. (He produces works that, while personal, are often presented in a symbolically pop vernacular - speaking the language of today’s contemporary society.)

Klincewicz’s career began as a videographer. His first notable project was video work for Gosha Rubchinskiy’s Russian fashion label (2015). Subsequently, his repertoire expanded with collaborations
and commissions from some of the world’s top creators like Beyoncé, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Virgil Abloh, and Steve Lacy. On top of that, he has also worked in collaboration with a wide array of brands including Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, and Miu Miu. Whilst Klincewicz has carved out a singular niche in the commercial sphere with his Music videos and fashion campaigns, Klincewicz’s practice also includes directing short films, making experimental documentaries, and songwriting. In 2018–2019, he collaborated with Beyoncé and Parkwood Entertainment on the Grammy award-winning film Homecoming, as a filmer, editor, and musician - providing an intimate look at Beyoncé’s transformation from a (being on) hiatus, to headlining the Coachella Music Festival. Sharing a deep relationship with skateboarding since his teens, Klincewicz has also collaborated with brands such as Vans, Rassvet, and Nike, and in 2022 was named a key figure in street and pop culture by Hypebeast100.
