■ DIEGO
Starting his journey in street art as a teenager, DIEGO might not be known as "Tokyo's representative street artist," but he is undoubtedly "the most eccentric artist in Japan's street scene." Without any formal art education or university training, and not molded by Tokyo's rough street culture, DIEGO carved his own path. Through his nerdy perspective, he mastered graffiti and street art, consistently injecting his unique vision into the urban landscape. Over time, this approach earned him a reputation as a "slowly but surely recognized" street artist.
The awkward yet charming characters in DIEGO's works are "anonymous creators" he discovered on retro signs during his bike rides around the city and in old printed materials from second-hand bookstores he frequented. His peculiar lettering style, influenced by the "Toy Graffiti" movement spreading among new generations in Europe, has evolved into something uniquely his own. DIEGO's "dislocated street expressions" have gradually expanded from visual art in paintings and murals to graffiti in the streets and conceptual art.
Recently, as a member of SIDE CORE, DIEGO has been involved in organizing exhibitions and showcasing his work. Additionally, he directs mural programs he founded, guiding international artists in their mural creations.
