First of all, please tell us what happened before you started working. I was born in Chicago and moved to San Diego when I was seven. I loved to move around when I was little, climbing trees and playing with hula hoops. When I was about eight I wanted to learn gymnastics, but we couldn't afford the monthly fees, so I joined the local circus instead. They had a free afterschool program for kids. I did everything from trapeze to tightrope walking, unicycling to juggling - I loved doing circus because I felt so free. After I discovered skateboarding at age ten, it was all about skateboarding to the point where everything else became a distraction. Who were your heroes...

Reimagining Japanese Ceramics: Chisato Yasui
