“SHINJUKU_RESOLUTION” is the retelling of “Shinjuku”-Daido Moriyama’s multi-year photography project capturing the many faces of Shinjuku-through the innovative aesthetics of the iconic new-age artist, YOSHIROTTEN.
This project experiments with enlarging the photographs to create new pieces, in the form of a series of posters.The two artists’ production of 11 new visualizations of “Shinjuku” is reflected in the gentle, silver glimmer of each poster. This poster series is in conjunction with the SHINJUKU_RESOLUTION event held at Isetan Shinjuku during Summer 2020.
RESOLUTION
That which appears when the resolution is increased. That which can be encountered when the resolution is decreased, abstracting the original image. To put it simply, the act of zooming in and out of images allows us to perceive things in deeper, more complex ways. The notion of resolution exists in every layer of every viewpoint there is. From those who come to make a living and build a life to those who arrive carrying personal goals and hopes, the people themselves are part of the multifaceted landscape of the city. The essence of Shinjuku and the attention it attracts has stimulated creatives, culture, and tradition.
